2014 Volkswagen Passat 1.6L Diesel · GJ14 KBK

The vehicle presents a stable roadworthiness profile with a consistent passing record, though recent advisories indicate a slight downward trend in component maintenance. The most recent test on 10 March 2026 at 86,728 miles flagged thin rear brake pads and an offside front tyre worn close to the legal limit. These advisories follow a pattern of wear seen in previous years, suggesting that while the car remains legal, consumable items are reaching the end of their service life. The mileage accumulation appears consistent with a vehicle of this age. The car has covered 86,728 miles over approximately 12 years, averaging roughly 7,227 miles per year. The data shows steady annual progress, with 5,045 miles added between March 2025 and March 2026, and 4,845 miles added between March 2024 and March 2025. This regular usage pattern suggests the vehicle has not been subject to long periods of inactivity, which helps mitigate risks associated with seized components or perished rubber seals. A prospective buyer should focus on the braking system and tyre condition during a physical inspection. The tester flagged thin rear brake pads in both March 2025 and March 2026, indicating that the rear pads are nearing replacement. The recurring advisories for tyres worn on the edges, specifically the offside rear inner tyre in 2022 and 2023 and the offside front tyre in 2026, suggest potential issues with wheel alignment or suspension geometry. I recommend checking the suspension bushes and tracking to ensure the uneven tyre wear is not caused by underlying mechanical faults. While the MOT history shows no structural corrosion or serious mechanical failures, the repeated tyre advisories warrant a closer look at the steering and suspension components to prevent premature replacement of new rubber.
