2007 Volkswagen FOX 1.2L Petrol · GL56 VZX

Recurring issues with braking systems, exhaust integrity, and suspension components define the mechanical profile of this vehicle, which most recently passed its MOT on 08 November 2023. The testing history shows a pattern of significant failures, including dangerous defects regarding tyre tread depth and brake pad thickness, alongside major failures for exhaust leaks and emissions non-compliance. While the most recent result was a pass, the presence of advisories for worn suspension arm pins and bushes on both the nearside and offside front indicates that wear in the steering and suspension linkages is progressing. The vehicle has covered 105,901 miles over its 19-year lifespan, representing an average annual usage of approximately 5,574 miles. This is a relatively low rate of mileage accumulation for a vehicle of this age. Mechanically, such low annual usage can sometimes correlate with shorter trips that do not allow components like the exhaust system or catalytic converter to reach optimal operating temperatures, which may relate to the recorded exhaust gas leaks and lambda reading failures. It also means the vehicle has spent more time stationary between uses, which can impact the condition of rubber components and seals. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the front suspension during a test drive. The 2023 advisories specifically flagged worn suspension arm pins or bushes on both the nearside and offside front. You should listen for knocking, clunking, or creaking noises when driving over speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, and check for any wandering or imprecise steering feel that might indicate excessive movement in these bushes. Additionally, the history of brake-related failures, including insufficient reserve travel and dangerously thin pads, necessitates a thorough inspection of the braking hardware. The recent advisory regarding a product on the offside front headlamp lens and a deteriorated front registration plate suggests minor cosmetic degradation that should be noted. Given the previous major failures regarding windscreen washer functionality and wiper effectiveness, you should verify that the washer system operates with sufficient pressure and that the wipers clear the glass without streaking. Finally, because the vehicle has previously failed on exhaust leaks and emissions, a close inspection of the central exhaust box and the overall integrity of the exhaust system is advisable to ensure no further leaks have developed.
