2004 Ford Transit 2.4L Diesel · GY54 ABZ

This 2004 Ford Transit has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded in either of its most recent tests, most recently passing on 1 June 2023 at 174,753 miles. The absence of advisories or failings across these two consecutive tests suggests a stable roadworthiness trend, though the 12-month gap between tests—now 3 years and 2 months—means critical components like brakes, suspension, and emissions systems have not been formally rechecked since then. The last test date is well beyond the recommended annual interval for vehicles of this age, raising immediate concerns about deferred maintenance risks. The recorded mileage of 174,753 miles over 22 years equates to approximately 7,943 miles annually, a rate consistent with typical light-to-moderate usage for a vehicle of this generation. There are no evident gaps or spikes in mileage accumulation between the two MOTs, though the sparse data prevents a deeper assessment of long-term wear patterns. Without intermediate service records, it remains unclear whether routine maintenance—such as fluid changes, suspension servicing, or brake inspections—has been consistently performed. Given the lack of MOT defects, a buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of high-wear components that often fail without warning. The suspension, particularly coil springs and bushes, will show significant degradation at this mileage, with potential for uneven ride height or clunking noises. Binding rear brakes or unevenly worn discs are common issues in this model, so a dynamic brake test under load is essential. Structural integrity should also be scrutinised, as corrosion in wheel arches, sills, or the subframe can compromise safety without leaving obvious MOT failings. Emissions systems, if equipped with a DPF or catalytic converter, may require verification for clogging or damage, as these are often overlooked until failure.
