2006 Jeep Cherokee Limited CRD 2.8L Diesel · HD56 DMF

The most recent MOT record for this Jeep Cherokee, dated 14 December 2021, shows a clean pass with no recorded defects or advisories. However, given that the current date is September 2026, the vehicle is significantly overdue for its annual inspection, meaning its current roadworthiness is entirely unverified. While the previous clean pass suggests the vehicle met the necessary safety and structural standards at that time, the lack of recent testing makes it impossible to establish a reliable maintenance trend or confirm if the vehicle has been kept in a roadworthy state since late 2021. The recorded mileage of 80,679 miles is significantly low for a twenty-year-old vehicle, representing an annual average of roughly 4,034 miles. While this suggests reduced mechanical wear on the engine, gearbox, and drivetrain, such low usage often implies the vehicle has been subject to long periods of standing. For a diesel CRD engine, infrequent operation can lead to specific issues such as carbon accumulation within the EGR system or moisture ingress in the fuel system. The mechanical implications of low mileage are a trade-off between reduced component wear and the potential for age-related degradation of fluids and seals that rely on regular thermal cycling to remain effective. A prospective buyer should conduct a rigorous physical inspection focusing on age-related deterioration rather than mileage-based wear. Examine the tyres for sidewall perishing or cracking, as rubber degrades over time even if the tread remains deep. Inspect the brake discs for heavy corrosion or pitting and test the pedal feel for any signs of binding calipers or air in the system. It is essential to check all rubber-based components, including suspension bushes, coolant hoses, and engine mounts, for signs of hardening or splitting. Furthermore, ensure that service intervals have been adhered to on a calendar basis, specifically regarding engine oil, coolant, and brake fluid, as these fluids degrade over time regardless of distance travelled. Finally, check the 12V battery health and inspect the underside for any signs of leaks from seals that may have dried out due to inactivity.
