2014 Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0L Diesel · HG14 XNF

Four consecutive MOT passes without a single advisory or defect recorded is a genuinely strong roadworthiness record for a twelve-year-old Volkswagen Tiguan, and the latest test on 14 April 2025 continues that unbroken trend of clean outcomes stretching back to April 2022. There is no evidence of recurring corrosion, suspension wear, brake component deterioration, or emissions concerns anywhere in the official DVSA history, which means no chronic mechanical weakness has been flagged by successive testers. The trend is stable rather than improving or worsening, simply because there has never been anything to improve upon. For a prospective buyer, this is the defining story of the vehicle: a consistent pattern of passing first time with nothing noted, which removes much of the uncertainty that usually surrounds a car of this age. The recorded mileage of 105,903 miles equates to roughly 8,825 miles per year, which sits comfortably within the typical range for a vehicle of this age and suggests regular, sustained use rather than long periods standing idle. There are no gaps in the annual testing sequence and no signs of erratic mileage jumps that might indicate clocking or extended lay-ups. Regular use at this rate is generally favourable for a diesel or petrol Tiguan of this era, as it keeps seals lubricated, brakes free of surface corrosion, and the drivetrain exercised, while the moderate annual accumulation means wear items such as suspension bushes, dampers, and brake components will have aged progressively rather than being subjected to unusually harsh duty. Because the MOT record flags no specific defects, buyer diligence should focus on the areas a standard test does not fully interrogate on a 2014 Tiguan. On the test drive, listen carefully for knocking or clonking from the front suspension over uneven surfaces, which would point to worn anti-roll bar links or wishbone bushes that have not yet deteriorated enough to attract an advisory. Check for any vibration through the brake pedal or steering wheel under firm braking, indicating disc run-out or uneven pad deposits, and confirm the car tracks straight without pulling under braking, which would suggest a binding caliper. Steering should feel consistent from lock to lock without notching or heaviness, which could betray early wear in the steering rack or column universal joint. Given the clean paperwork, the sensible remaining checks concern items outside the MOT's scope. Verify a full service history with evidence of regular oil changes, and on any diesel example confirm the diesel particulate filter regenerates properly by checking for warning lights and ensuring the engine pulls cleanly without hesitation or excessive smoke. If the car is fitted with the DSG automatic gearbox, confirm smooth, prompt gear changes both cold and warm, as shuddering or delayed engagement is a known and costly concern on these units. Finally, inspect the bodywork and underside for corrosion around the wheel arches, sills, and subframe mounting points, since even a well-maintained example of this age can harbour early rust that has not yet reached the threshold for an MOT advisory.
