2015 Mazda MX-5 1.5L Petrol · HG65 XOO

The 2015 Mazda MX-5 presents a stable and improving maintenance trend, culminating in a completely clean MOT pass on 27 August 2025 at 27,051 miles with zero defects. The only advisory recorded in the entire history occurred in July 2022, when both front brake pads were flagged as wearing thin at 25,505 miles. That issue was evidently resolved promptly, as the subsequent August 2022 test at 25,522 miles passed without any defects, and every test since has remained entirely clear. This pattern suggests attentive ownership and consistent upkeep rather than neglect or deferred maintenance. The mileage profile is notably low for an eleven-year-old vehicle, averaging roughly 2,459 miles per year. Between the August 2024 test at 26,394 miles and the August 2025 test at 27,051 miles, only 657 miles were added over twelve months, indicating very light recent use. Earlier records show similarly modest increments, with just 391 miles covered between August 2022 and August 2023. Such low annual accumulation raises the possibility of extended periods of inactivity, which can introduce its own concerns despite the appealingly low odometer reading. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the condition of rubber components, including tyres, suspension bushes, and door seals, as prolonged standing can cause perishing and cracking even when tread depth appears adequate. The braking system, while consistently passing inspection since 2022, warrants a physical check for seized calipers or uneven disc wear given the minimal mileage being covered. Underbody corrosion should be inspected carefully, as infrequent use combined with road salt exposure during short trips can accelerate structural rust in box sections and suspension mounting points. A test drive over varied surfaces will reveal any deterioration in damping or bush compliance that low mileage alone does not guarantee against.
