2003 Mitsubishi Space Star 1.6L Petrol · HW53 AHJ

This Mitsubishi Space Star has demonstrated a stable but inconsistent MOT history, with the most recent test occurring just eight months ago on 2025-12-07. Despite passing on that occasion, the record shows an unusual dual entry for the same date—one pass and one fail—both at the same mileage of 165,859. This anomaly suggests either a clerical error in the DVSA system or a temporary suspension of the test, though no defects were logged in either instance. The preceding MOT in November 2024 also passed without failings, indicating no obvious deterioration in critical systems over the past year. However, the repeated retest in 2023 at 143,538 miles—with both entries failing—implies a prior unresolved issue, though the exact nature remains unspecified. Without further context, the trend appears stable in terms of passing tests, but the 2023 retest raises questions about whether minor faults were overlooked or deferred. The vehicle’s mileage progression suggests moderate usage, averaging around 7,200 miles annually, which is typical for its age. Since the last MOT in December 2025, the car has accumulated approximately 1,859 miles—well within the expected range for an annual check. The gap between tests aligns with standard MOT intervals, though the duplicate entries in 2023 and 2025 warrant scrutiny. There is no evidence of rapid mileage accumulation or prolonged inactivity, but the lack of intermediate service records means potential wear on high-friction components—such as brake pads, suspension bushes, or timing belts—cannot be confirmed. The consistent mileage increments imply the vehicle has been driven regularly, but without maintenance logs, hidden degradation in the drivetrain or electrical systems cannot be ruled out. Given the absence of specific fault codes in the MOT history, a buyer should prioritise an inspection of the suspension system, particularly the coil springs, bushes, and shock absorbers, as these are common failure points in vehicles of this age. The repeated retest in 2023 may indicate past issues with wheel alignment, binding brakes, or uneven tyre wear, all of which could recur. Exhaust emissions should also be tested, as older vehicles often develop leaks or catalytic converter inefficiencies. Structural integrity, particularly around the wheel arches and sills, should be examined for corrosion, as rust can compromise the chassis over time. Finally, the electrical system—including lights, indicators, and the battery—should be thoroughly checked, as these components frequently fail without warning in vehicles with limited service history.
