2012 Volkswagen Transporter 2.0L Diesel · HX12 LCM

The Volkswagen Transporter presents a remarkably clean MOT history, with every test since April 2021 passing without any defects or advisories recorded. The most recent inspection in April 2025 at 34,366 miles confirms the vehicle remains mechanically sound under current DVSA standards, with no signs of recurring issues or deferred repairs. This consistency over four consecutive tests—each conducted within the annual window—suggests the vehicle has been well maintained by its previous owners, at least in terms of compliance with basic roadworthiness requirements. The absence of advisories or minor faults also implies that routine consumables like tyres, brake pads, and bulbs have been replaced proactively, rather than left to fail at test thresholds. The mileage accumulation of roughly 2,455 miles per year is unusually low for a 14-year-old vehicle, particularly one of this model’s commercial lineage, which often sees higher annual usage. The gap between the July 2021 test (22,913 miles) and the April 2022 test (23,923 miles) spans nearly a year with just 1,010 miles logged, reinforcing the pattern of light or intermittent use. Such low mileage typically reduces wear on drivetrain components, suspension bushes, and brake systems, but it may also mask latent issues in less frequently operated systems—such as fluid leaks or minor corrosion—since these are less likely to manifest under sporadic driving conditions. The regular annual testing cadence, however, mitigates this risk somewhat by ensuring periodic checks. Given the flawless MOT record, a prospective buyer should still verify a few critical areas in person. While the tester has not flagged any structural concerns, the vehicle’s age and the potential for long-term storage warrant a thorough inspection of suspension components, including coil springs, anti-roll bars, and bushings, for signs of degradation or corrosion. The rear brakes should be checked for binding or uneven wear, as these are common issues in older Transporters even when MOTs pass without comment. Additionally, the exhaust system’s mounting points and underbody should be examined for rust penetration, particularly if the vehicle has spent extended periods in damp or salty conditions. The absence of recorded faults does not preclude the need for a pre-purchase mechanical inspection, especially given the atypical mileage pattern.
