1992 Volkswagen Polo 1.3L Petrol · J181 NKR

The Volkswagen Polo presents as roadworthy following a pass at the 23 May 2025 test with 91,662 miles recorded and no defects listed. The maintenance trend appears stable on paper, with the most recent examination clearing the vehicle cleanly. This contrasts with the prior week's attempt, where the tester failed the car on 16 May 2025 at 91,653 miles yet logged no specific defects, a pattern consistent with administrative or documentation failure rather than a mechanical fault. The recorded mileage of 91,662 against a 34-year lifespan equates to roughly 2,696 miles per year, marking this as a low-use example. The gap between the two May 2025 tests shows only nine miles accrued, confirming the car sat largely idle in the days before sale. Sparse history beyond these entries limits longitudinal wear analysis, though the low annual average suggests lighter mechanical loading but also potential for deterioration through prolonged standing, such as perished rubber bushes or seized brake components. A buyer should physically verify the suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake calipers for binding or corrosion given the vehicle's age and likely static periods. The May 2025 failure with no defects recorded warrants scrutiny of paperwork and identity checks rather than mechanical concern, but the absence of advisories across both tests does not preclude hidden structural rust on sills or subframes typical of a 1992 shell. Pre-purchase inspection should prioritise underside structural integrity and exhaust emissions against the original spec. Low mileage masks nothing if the May 2025 pass is genuine, yet the unexplained failure nine miles earlier demands the seller account for the discrepancy before funds transfer.
