2009 Volkswagen Golf 2.0L Diesel · J31 TOM

The 2009 Volkswagen Golf presents as roadworthy with a stable maintenance trend. The most recent test on 27 August 2025 at 134,072 miles returned a pass with no defects recorded, continuing an unbroken run of clean results across the prior three years. Annual mileage sits at a typical 7,887 per year for a 17-year-old car. The records show steady accumulation: 114,038 miles in August 2022, 123,035 in August 2023, 129,053 in September 2024, and 134,072 in August 2025. A single failed test on 9 August 2022 at 114,036 miles was followed one day later by a pass at 114,038 miles with no defects listed, indicating the failure was administrative or a trivial rectification rather than a mechanical fault. The sparse, clean history gives no evidence of neglected consumables or deferred structural repairs. With no advisories or defects logged across any test, the buyer should still commission an independent inspection of age-related items the MOT does not deeply probe. At 134,072 miles, suspension bushes, coil springs, and brake disc thickness warrant physical checks for fatigue. Structural corrosion around sills and subframes should be examined despite the absence of tester flags. The previous owner clearly kept the car to a basic pass standard with no outstanding warnings. A pre-purchase visual check of tyre sidewalls, exhaust hangers, and underbody rust remains sensible given the vehicle's 2009 build date.
