2007 Saab 9-3 2.0L Petrol · JO04 WLK

The most recent MOT test on 2026-04-09 confirms the vehicle remains roadworthy, with no defects recorded at 79,410 miles. However, the history reveals a concerning pattern of repeated failures at the same mileage—both the 2024 and 2025 tests show two consecutive entries at 75,739 and 77,184 miles respectively, with one failure each time. This suggests a recurring issue that was either overlooked or inadequately addressed between tests, despite the vehicle passing the final inspection. The absence of advisories or defects in the latest pass does not guarantee stability, as the test window for critical components like suspension bushes, coil springs, or brake calipers may have been narrowly avoided. The mileage progression of approximately 1,900 miles between tests (from 75,739 to 77,218) and another 1,200 miles to the current 79,410 suggests the vehicle has been driven at a modest but consistent rate over the past two years. The low annual average of around 4,179 miles aligns with light usage, which could mitigate some wear, but it also implies prolonged periods without regular servicing. Notably, the gap between the 2025 failure and pass—just three days apart—indicates either a rushed correction or a test retake, neither of which bodes well for thorough maintenance. The lack of service records complicates assessment, as critical components like timing belts, fuel injectors, or differential fluid may be long overdue. Given the repeated failures at similar mileages, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of the suspension system, particularly the rear subframe and bushes, which often correlate with MOT failures in this model. The brakes, especially the rear calipers, warrant close examination for binding or excessive wear, as this could explain the test anomalies. Structural corrosion, particularly around the wheel arches, sills, and subframe, should be checked for hidden deterioration that might not have been visible at test time. The absence of advisories in recent tests does not preclude underlying issues—tyre condition, wheel bearings, and exhaust integrity should also be verified, as these are common failure points in vehicles of this age. The lack of service history further necessitates scrutiny of fluid levels and condition, as neglect in this area can lead to catastrophic failures.
