2012 Honda CBF 125 M-B 0.1L Petrol · KE12 FVP

The most recent MOT history for this 2012 Honda CBF 125 indicates a concerning pattern of instability rather than consistent roadworthiness. The vehicle failed its test on 2025-04-05 at 27,894 miles before passing just ten days later at the same mileage, a scenario that suggests either a last-minute correction or an oversight in the initial inspection. The previous failure in February 2023—also at identical mileage—implies a recurring issue that was not addressed between tests, despite the vehicle passing in April 2024 without incident. This inconsistency raises questions about whether critical components were overlooked or if the failures were procedural rather than mechanical. The lack of recorded defects in any of these tests further complicates diagnosis, as the failures may stem from minor but persistent issues such as sensor calibration, emissions compliance, or even administrative errors. The recorded mileage of 27,914 miles over nearly 14 years—approximately 1,994 miles annually—is unusually low for a vehicle of this age, suggesting either infrequent use or prolonged periods of inactivity. The gap between the 2023 failure and the 2024 pass (a 12-month interval with no mileage change) is particularly notable, as it implies the vehicle may have been stationary for an extended period. Such conditions can accelerate wear on components like battery health, fuel system integrity, and tyre degradation, even if the mileage remains low. The absence of mileage progression between the 2023 failure and the 2024 pass also makes it difficult to correlate wear with usage, leaving potential hidden issues unaccounted for. Given the pattern of failures without specific defects recorded, a prospective buyer should prioritise an in-person inspection of the vehicle’s battery, electrical systems, and emissions-related components, as these are common causes of MOT failures without visible mechanical faults. The repeated failures at identical mileages in 2023 and 2025 warrant scrutiny of the vehicle’s ECU or sensor functionality, which could be triggering false alerts or failing to meet emissions thresholds. Additionally, the low mileage does not guarantee absence of wear—tyres, suspension bushes, and brake pads may still require replacement if the vehicle has been stored improperly or exposed to moisture. Corrosion in wheel arches, underbody, or frame welds should also be checked, as prolonged inactivity can exacerbate rust development. Finally, the brakes, despite no recorded defects, should be tested for binding or uneven wear, as the 2025 failure may have been linked to brake-related issues that were not explicitly noted.
