2003 Suzuki Grand Vitara 1.6L Petrol · KM03 YLS

The vehicle is currently roadworthy but the maintenance history reveals a recurring pattern of reactive rather than proactive care. The most recent test in July 2025 at 97,756 miles resulted in an initial failure due to a deteriorated offside front outer CV boot, a worn nearside front tyre, and an inoperative registration lamp. While these issues were rectified to secure a pass, the recurrence of the CV boot failure, which first appeared in 2021, suggests that specific components are overlooked until they fail. At 23 years old, the Suzuki Grand Vitara has a notably low-mileage profile, averaging approximately 4,250 miles per year. The data shows a significant gap in usage between 2015 and 2019, where the vehicle covered only 55 miles over four years. Since then, the mileage accumulation has become more consistent, covering over 34,000 miles between 2019 and 2025. This low annual usage often accelerates age-related degradation of rubber components and seals rather than mechanical wear and tear from high mileage. A buyer must inspect the structural integrity of the chassis and suspension mounting. The 2019 test flagged corrosion on both front and rear suspension components, and while the tester noted structural rigidity was not reduced at that time, rust on vehicles of this era typically progresses unchecked. Furthermore, the history shows a persistent issue with corroded brake pipes dating back to 2013 and 2015, necessitating a thorough physical check of the hydraulic lines for thinning or pitting to ensure the system remains safe. The drivetrain and engine require close attention given the 2015 reports of oil leaks from the rear differential and the engine, alongside an active engine management light. Given the repeated failure of the CV joint boot, the buyer should check for grease leakage and play in the front drive joints to avoid imminent mechanical failure. The frequent mentions of tyres worn to the legal limit across multiple years indicate that the previous owner often ignored basic consumable maintenance until an MOT failure forced action.
