2018 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2.1L Diesel · KN18 ABX

This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter presents a clean MOT history over its recent testing cycle, with the most critical observation being the December 2025 retest—just six days after a failure—showing no defects at either 68,124 or 68,170 miles. The absence of advisories or defects across all five tests since February 2023 indicates stable mechanical condition, suggesting the vehicle has either been well-maintained or subjected to minimal stress. The December 2025 failure, however, lacks recorded issues, which is unusual; this could imply a clerical error or a minor, easily rectified fault not logged in the official record. For a buyer, this near-flawless history raises no immediate red flags, though the lack of detail around the failure is worth probing further. The mileage progression reveals a consistent but moderate usage pattern, with 68,170 miles over eight years averaging roughly 8,500 miles annually—a figure typical for a commercial or lightly used van of this age. The most recent 37,649 miles were covered in under 11 months (January 2025 to December 2025), which is slightly accelerated but not excessive. Earlier gaps, such as the 5,236-mile jump between the January 2024 (30,521 miles) and February 2023 (25,013 miles) tests, suggest periods of lower activity, possibly seasonal or operational downtime. There’s no evidence of rapid wear or neglect, but the sparse MOT frequency—annual tests only—means some wear items may have been addressed just outside test windows. Given the clean record, a buyer should still verify key structural and wear components in person. Focus on suspension integrity, particularly the front coil springs and rear shock absorbers, as these are high-wear points in vans and often not MOT-tested unless visibly damaged. Check for binding in the rear brakes, as Mercedes Sprinters of this generation have had occasional issues with caliper sticking or seized slides—something not always caught in a test unless actively braking. Exhaust emissions and DPF health (if diesel) should be confirmed, as these can degrade without immediate MOT consequences. Finally, inspect for surface corrosion, especially around wheel arches and underseal, as the Sprinter’s bodywork is prone to rust in damp UK conditions despite the absence of MOT advisories. The lack of recorded defects doesn’t preclude hidden issues, so a pre-purchase inspection by a Mercedes specialist is strongly advised.
