2006 Volkswagen Golf 1.9L Diesel · L333 DMX

The vehicle passed its most recent MOT on 12 January 2026 at 122,470 miles, but the failure the day before revealed an unresolved issue with the offside front CV joint boot, which had been flagged as split or insecure. This suggests the car was driven with a known fault, and the persistent fluid leak across multiple tests indicates ongoing neglect of basic sealing components. The tyres have been consistently near the legal limit for over two years, showing a pattern of deferred maintenance rather than proactive replacement. The mileage progression is consistent with average annual use—roughly 6,000 to 7,000 miles per year—with no unusual spikes or long gaps between tests. The jump from 108,372 miles in February 2024 to 122,470 miles in January 2026 represents 14,098 miles covered in just under two years, which is normal for a vehicle of this age and does not suggest excessive or erratic usage. The two-month gap between the failed and passed tests in January 2026 is typical and implies the CV boot was replaced and the vehicle retested promptly. A buyer must inspect the front suspension and steering components thoroughly, particularly the CV joints and their boots, as the repeated failure on this item signals potential grease loss and accelerated joint wear. The brake discs on both front inner surfaces have shown pitting and scoring since early 2024, and given the tyre wear patterns, it is likely the front suspension bushes are worn, causing uneven contact and accelerated disc degradation. The persistent fluid leak, though not excessive, should be traced to its source—likely a failing seal on the gearbox, differential, or brake system—and the headlamp alignment issues from 2024 suggest the mounting points may be loose or corroded. Tyres must be replaced immediately, and the entire brake system should be stripped and inspected for binding calipers or warped discs. There is no record of structural corrosion, but the car’s age and mileage warrant a detailed underbody check for rust around wheel arches, sills, and suspension mounting points.
