2005 Honda Jazz 1.3L Petrol · LB55 DFP

The most recent DVSA examination on 10 December 2024 recorded a PASS with no defects or advisories, which represents a clean and reassuring current roadworthy status. Reviewing the trajectory across the seven recorded tests from 2017 through 2024, the maintenance trend appears stable and broadly consistent, with no failures recorded at any point. The only advisory notes emerged in 2018 and 2020 relating to brake pad wear and front tyre condition, both of which are entirely expected for a vehicle of this age. The return to clean passes in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024 indicates that those wear items were evidently attended to and that the vehicle has since been maintained to a satisfactory standard. The recorded mileage of 99,734 miles on a 21-year-old vehicle equates to an annual average of approximately 4,749 miles, which is notably below typical usage for a Honda Jazz of this era and suggests a car that has seen either genuinely light motoring or extended periods of standing. For the mechanical implications, this low average mileage is largely favourable for major drivetrain and engine components, which on Honda units of this generation tend to be robust, but it does raise the prospect of age-related degradation affecting items that suffer from disuse rather than wear. Extended standing periods commonly lead to brake disc corrosion, seized or binding calipers, perished rubber components, and 12V battery deterioration, all of which would not necessarily be flagged under standard MOT inspection criteria until they reach an advanced state. Given the vehicle's age and the clean recent test history, prospective buyers should prioritise a thorough physical and functional inspection beyond the MOT paperwork. On a test drive, listen carefully for any suspension clunks or knocks from the front and rear, which would indicate worn bushes, drop links, or coil springs typical of a car reaching two decades of service, and pay attention to brake pedal feel, as a spongy pedal or pulling to one side under braking would suggest corroded discs or a binding caliper. Inspect all four tyres for sidewall cracking or perishing from age, as rubber degrades regardless of tread depth, and check the spare if fitted. Verify that the 12V battery holds charge under load, particularly if the vehicle has stood for long intervals, and examine the underbody and wheel arches for surface corrosion, paying particular attention to suspension arms, exhaust mounting points, and brake line condition. Equally important, confirm the service book history to validate that time-based maintenance has been carried out irrespective of the low mileage. Engine oil and filter changes should have occurred at least every twelve months even if the annual distance covered has been modest, and the brake fluid, coolant, and automatic or manual transmission fluid should have been renewed on a calendar basis, typically every two to four years depending on specification. Inspect the condition of the cam chain, balance shaft belt where applicable, and auxiliary drive belts for glazing or cracking, as these degrade with age rather than mileage. Finally, check for any fluid leaks from the rear drum brake cylinders, the radiator, and around the power steering reservoir, and ensure that all interior and exterior electrical functions operate correctly, as age-related wiring and switchgear faults are common on vehicles of this vintage.
