2012 Hyosung GT 650 R 0.6L Petrol · LJ12 GVG

The most recent recorded MOT from April 2018 resulted in a pass, but the overall maintenance trend is concerning. The vehicle demonstrates a recurring pattern of failures related to basic electrical components and lighting, alongside a persistent list of mechanical advisories. The fact that brake disc scoring and fork issues remained as advisories over multiple years suggests a reactive approach to maintenance rather than a preventative one, indicating that the vehicle may have been neglected during its later recorded years. With only 8,082 miles recorded over fourteen years, the average annual usage is approximately 577 miles, which is exceptionally low for a motorcycle of this type. While low mileage generally implies less drivetrain wear, in this instance, it strongly suggests prolonged periods of standing. Such inactivity often leads to more severe degradation of rubber components, seals, and fluids than regular use would, potentially causing internal corrosion or the seizing of moving parts. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system and suspension. The repeated advisories for scored brake discs and fluctuating brake effort indicate a need for a thorough inspection of the discs for pitting and the calipers for binding. During a test drive, listen for any unusual noises from the front forks and check for instability or excessive bouncing, as the history of fork misting, pitting, and a failed rear shock absorber suggests the damping may be compromised. Any shuddering under braking or a spongy lever feel would confirm that the braking system requires immediate overhaul. Given the evidence of long-term standing, a comprehensive physical inspection is essential. Check all tyre sidewalls for perishing or cracking, as tyres of this age often lose structural integrity regardless of tread depth. Verify the health of the 12V battery and inspect the fuel system for varnish or gumming caused by old petrol. It is critical to confirm when the brake fluid and engine oil were last changed, as these fluids degrade based on time rather than mileage. Finally, examine the frame and swingarm for surface corrosion and check the chain for stiffness or rust, which are common symptoms of a vehicle left dormant.
