Structural corrosion on the offside rear inner vehicle structure represents the most significant mechanical risk identified in the most recent MOT pass on 01 December 2023. While the inspector noted that structural rigidity was not significantly reduced and the sill was crushed, this advisory follows a history of recurring issues with suspension components and exhaust systems. The vehicle has demonstrated a pattern of progressive wear in the steering and suspension assemblies, specifically regarding anti-roll bar bushes and linkage ball joints, alongside consistent concerns regarding headlamp lens defects and exhaust gas leaks. The recorded mileage of 120,080 miles over a 21-year period averages approximately 5,718 miles per year, which is low for a vehicle of this age. This usage pattern suggests the vehicle has not been subjected to high-frequency long-distance driving, which can sometimes lead to components such as suspension bushes and seals ageing through lack of movement rather than through heavy mechanical load. However, the low annual accumulation does not negate the documented progression of corrosion and the wear noted on consumables like brake pads and tyres. A physical inspection and test drive should focus heavily on the reported structural corrosion and the condition of the exhaust system. Given the 2023 advisory regarding the offside rear inner structure and the 2022 advisory for an exhaust backbox blow, a buyer should inspect the underside for advanced oxidation that could compromise the chassis. During the test drive, listen for any changes in exhaust note or increased vibration that might indicate the exhaust leak has worsened. Furthermore, the history of worn anti-roll bar bushes and ball joints suggests that the suspension should be closely monitored for knocking or clunking sounds when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps. Attention must also be paid to the braking system and lighting. The records show a history of thinning brake pads and a brake pedal described as wearing smooth, so the pedal feel should be checked for sponginess or excessive travel. The recurring issues with headlamp lens defects and moisture ingress should be verified by checking for clarity and light pattern consistency to ensure the illumination is sufficient for night driving. Any steering pull or uneven tyre wear should also be investigated to ensure that the previously noted suspension and ball joint issues have been adequately addressed.
