1997 Volvo 900 Series 2.3L Petrol · M21 DBC

This Volvo 900 Series presents a stable roadworthiness profile with a clean record of passes over the last four years. The most recent test on 18 July 2025 at 137,736 miles resulted in a pass with no defects recorded. While the vehicle failed the day prior on 17 July 2025, the absence of listed defects suggests a clerical error or a minor administrative failure rather than a mechanical deficiency. The vehicle has covered approximately 4,750 miles per year over its 29-year lifespan, which is low for this model. Mileage accumulation has remained consistent in recent years, increasing from 129,026 miles in June 2022 to 137,736 miles by July 2025. This steady usage suggests the car has avoided long periods of standing, which typically reduces the risk of seized calipers or perished rubber seals. The MOT history is unusually clean for a vehicle of this age, showing no advisories for corrosion, suspension bushes, or brake wear across multiple tests. This lack of recorded defects is atypical for a 1997 chassis and implies either an exceptional level of preventative maintenance or a very lenient testing regime. A buyer should focus their physical inspection on structural integrity and underside corrosion, as these are common failure points for this era of Volvo that may not have been flagged in these specific records. Checking the condition of the coil springs and checking for any signs of oil leaks from the engine and gearbox will provide a more complete picture of the mechanical health beyond the basic MOT requirements.
