2018 Hyundai Tucson 1.6L Petrol · MV18 UXY

The vehicle remains roadworthy, but the maintenance history shows a worsening trend regarding rubber components. In the most recent test on 12 January 2026 at 27,724 miles, the tester flagged the front tyres as worn close to the legal limit and noted signs of cracking across all four tyres. This represents a progression from the minor cracking advisories seen in previous years, indicating that the tyres are failing due to age and oxidation rather than tread wear. The mileage pattern is exceptionally low for an eight-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 3,466 miles per year. There is a significant jump in usage between February 2022 at 4,703 miles and January 2024 at 11,399 miles, where the vehicle covered over 6,600 miles in two years. However, the usage accelerated again with 16,325 miles between 2024 and 2026. This low-frequency usage pattern explains the recurring issues with tyre perishing and sidewall cracking noted in the MOT records. A buyer must prioritize the replacement of a full set of tyres, as the record shows consistent cracking and damage since 2023. Because the car sits for long periods, a physical inspection should focus on the brake system for corrosion or seized calipers, which are common in low-mileage vehicles. Additionally, check the suspension bushes and rubber boots for cracking, as the low-mileage environment often leads to accelerated degradation of rubber components despite low mechanical wear.
