2004 CI Motorhome Ducato 2.8L Diesel · MV54 ABX

The most recent MOT test conducted on 11 March 2026 resulted in a pass with no recorded defects. When reviewing the available history, the previous test in May 2022 also returned a pass with no defects, suggesting a stable and consistent maintenance trend regarding the vehicle's basic legal compliance. While a clean MOT record is a positive indicator of the vehicle's recent condition, it is essential to recognise that these tests are periodic snapshots and do not provide a complete picture of the overall mechanical health or the quality of routine preventative maintenance. The recorded mileage of 71,715 miles is remarkably low for a 22-year-old vehicle, averaging just over 3,260 miles per year. This low usage profile suggests that the engine, transmission, and major drivetrain components may have experienced less mechanical friction and wear than a higher-mileage equivalent. However, such infrequent use carries its own set of risks, particularly for a motorhome. Long periods of standing can lead to the degradation of fluids, the drying out of engine seals, and the seizure of components that are not regularly exercised, meaning the low mileage should not be taken as an absolute guarantee of mechanical perfection. Because the MOT history is clean and the mileage is low, your physical inspection should prioritise age-related deterioration over wear-based components. Closely inspect the tyres for signs of perishing or sidewall cracking, as rubber becomes brittle over time regardless of the remaining tread depth. Check the brake discs for excessive corrosion or pitting and ensure the calipers are not binding due to inactivity. During a test drive, pay close attention to the suspension for any clunks or knocks, which could indicate that the rubber bushes or coil springs have perished or lost their integrity due to age. You should also verify the service book to confirm that time-based maintenance has been carried out, as oil, coolant, and brake fluids require replacement based on age even if mileage is low. Inspect the engine bay for any signs of weeping from seals or hoses, which can occur when components are not regularly lubricated by moving parts. Finally, given the nature of this vehicle, check the integrity of the habitation seals and look for any evidence of dampness, as structural issues in motorhomes are often unrelated to the mechanical components covered by an MOT.
