The most recent MOT test on 2026-02-27 at 2,396 miles resulted in a failure, though no specific defects were recorded—an unusual omission that warrants immediate scrutiny. The pattern over the last three years shows inconsistent testing: two failures in 2023 (both at 1,496 miles) followed by a pass in July 2023 and another in February 2025, before the latest failure. This suggests either a lack of pre-test preparation or a systematic oversight in addressing minor issues that could escalate. The absence of defect details in any test is particularly concerning, as it implies either a flaw in the testing process or a deliberate suppression of critical findings. The recorded mileage of 2,396 miles over nearly 21 years—approximately 114 miles annually—is exceptionally low for a vehicle of this age, indicating prolonged periods of inactivity. The last two tests occurred at identical mileages (1,496 miles) in 2023, a gap of just 30 days between failure and pass, which is statistically implausible for normal usage. This suggests the vehicle may have been stationary for extended periods, exposing components to environmental degradation without regular movement. Such low mileage also raises questions about fluid changes, battery maintenance, and potential corrosion risks from moisture accumulation in critical areas like the frame, suspension, and electrical connections. Given the lack of defect specifics in any MOT, a buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of high-wear items that often fail silently, such as the battery (given prolonged inactivity), brake calipers and discs (for binding or uneven wear), and suspension bushes or coil springs (for stiffness or leaks). The repeated failures at identical mileages in 2023 imply a possible recurring issue—likely related to either electrical faults (e.g., lighting, indicators) or minor structural checks (e.g., frame integrity, exhaust leaks) that were overlooked. The absence of advisory notes in any test further justifies a detailed examination of the exhaust system for corrosion or catalytic converter efficiency, as these are common failure points in older motorcycles. The frame’s structural integrity should also be assessed for hidden rust or fatigue cracks, particularly if the vehicle has spent long periods uncovered.
