2006 Ford Fiesta 1.4L Diesel · NJ06 MVS

The 2006 Ford Fiesta’s most recent MOT test on 28 February 2026—just five months ago—confirms it remains roadworthy, though the record reveals an unusual pattern of repeated failures at the same mileage in both 2024 and 2025. Each of those years, the vehicle passed on the first attempt before failing on the retest at identical mileages (88,671 and 90,715 miles respectively), suggesting either a persistent but non-critical defect or a tester’s oversight in initial assessment. The absence of defects on the last two passes indicates no major structural or safety-critical failures have been recorded, but the retest history implies a lack of thorough maintenance between tests. The most recent pass without failings is a positive sign, yet the repeated retests warrant scrutiny of components prone to gradual degradation, particularly if the same issues recurred. The vehicle’s recorded mileage of 92,155 miles over 20 years—approximately 4,608 miles annually—is unusually low for its age, suggesting either infrequent use or prolonged periods of inactivity. This pattern is notable because it could correlate with deferred maintenance; lower mileage does not always equate to better condition, especially if the car has stood idle for extended periods, accelerating issues like suspension corrosion or battery degradation. The gap between tests is consistent at one year, but the retests in 2024 and 2025—both occurring on the same date—raise questions about whether the vehicle was driven to the tester’s location for each retest, which would imply a deliberate effort to pass rather than genuine concern over unresolved faults. This behaviour could indicate either a well-organised owner or one who prioritises passing the test over addressing underlying problems. Given the retest history, a buyer should prioritise an independent inspection of the suspension system, particularly the rear axle and bushes, as these are common failure points in older Fiestas and often lead to repeated MOT issues. The repeated retests also suggest the brakes may have been a focus, so checking for uneven wear, binding calipers, or warped discs is essential. Corrosion in wheel arches, subframes, or suspension mounts—common in vehicles with low annual mileage—should be examined closely, as should the exhaust system for leaks or rust-through. The absence of recorded defects does not guarantee these areas are sound, and the vehicle’s age means consumables like tyres, wiper blades, and brake pads may have been neglected despite passing tests. A thorough check of fluid levels (brakes, power steering, coolant) and battery health is also advisable, given the potential for stagnation in low-mileage vehicles.
