2022 MG 5 Exclusive Electric · OY71 VRT

The most recent MOT, carried out on 23 January 2026, resulted in a full pass with no recorded defects, mirroring the clean outcome from the previous test on 14 January 2025. This uninterrupted record of passing results suggests that the vehicle has been maintained to a satisfactory standard and that any servicing or repairs required in the intervening year have been addressed promptly, indicating a stable maintenance trend rather than any deterioration. At just 17,906 miles after four full calendar years, the MG 5 averages roughly 4,500 miles per annum – well below the industry norm for a family saloon of this age. Such low utilisation typically points to light daily use or extended periods of storage. While reduced mileage can mean less wear on wear‑items such as brake pads, tyres and suspension components, it also raises the possibility of components ageing in situ, particularly seals, gaskets and battery cells, which can deteriorate even when the car is not being driven. For a buyer, the first visual inspection should focus on the tyre sidewalls for cracking, dry rot or hardening, as tyre rubber can perish with age irrespective of tread depth. Examine the wheels for uneven wear that might betray mis‑alignment or worn suspension bushes, and press the front and rear suspension for any excessive play or clunking that could indicate deteriorated bushings or coil‑spring mounts. The 12‑volt battery, now four years old, should be tested for cranking amperage and checked for any signs of electrolyte leakage or terminal corrosion; a weak battery is a common symptom of long periods of standing. Verify that the brake discs are free from deep rust pits or scoring and that the pads have sufficient thickness – discs left idle can develop surface rust that, if severe, may cause shudder or reduced braking efficiency when first applied. Finally, request the full service book and confirm that time‑based fluids – engine oil, coolant, brake fluid and gearbox oil – have been changed in accordance with the manufacturer’s calendar intervals, as these fluids can degrade even with low mileage. Inspect the under‑carriage for any signs of corrosion, especially around the exhaust hangers and suspension mounting points, and ensure that all electronic systems, including the infotainment and driver‑assist features, are operational and up‑to‑date with any recall or software updates that MG may have issued. A short test drive should be free of unusual noises, vibrations or warning lights; any pull to one side, brake pulsation, or intermittent dashboard alerts would merit a more detailed mechanical examination before committing to purchase.
