2006 Porsche 911 3.8L Petrol · P6 LBT

This twenty-year-old 996-generation Porsche 911 presents an exceptionally clean DVSA roadworthiness record, with five consecutive pass certificates stretching from September 2021 through August 2025 and no advisories or defects recorded at any of those tests. Such a blemish-free history for a car of this vintage is unusual and points to consistent mechanical upkeep, although the MOT inspection is a relatively narrow snapshot covering primarily safety-critical items such as brakes, tyres, suspension, lighting, and exhaust integrity. The absence of any recorded defects means the tester found nothing notable to flag at the time of each annual examination, suggesting the car was presented in a tidy, road-legal condition each year. With the most recent test on 20 August 2025 returning a pass, the vehicle is currently MOT-compliant and, on paper at least, free of the sort of wear items that typically surface on a car of this age. The recorded mileage of 42,078 against a 2006 manufacture date equates to an average of around 2,100 miles per year, which is notably low for a performance car and well below the typical annual accumulation for vehicles of this age. This figure has remained effectively static across the five-year MOT history window, with each annual return showing no significant mileage progression between tests, indicating the car has either been used very sparingly as a weekend or fair-weather machine or has spent considerable periods off the road in storage. Low annual mileage reduces wear on major drivetrain components such as the clutch, gearbox synchros, and engine internals, but it does place greater stress on items that degrade through disuse. Rubber and polymer components dry out and crack when left standing, while moisture accumulation in the fuel system, brake hydraulic fluid, and the flat-six engine's cooling and oil circuits can become problematic. Specialist inspection of these age-sensitive items is therefore particularly relevant for this vehicle. For a prospective buyer, the clean MOT history means there are no specific flagged components to follow up on, but the broader implications of low mileage and a twenty-year-old chassis demand a targeted physical inspection. On a test drive, listen carefully for any clonks or knocks from the front suspension over uneven surfaces, paying particular focus on the lower wishbones, anti-drunk bar bushes, and drop links, as polyurethane and rubber bushes harden and perish with age even when mileage is low. Feel for any vibration through the steering wheel under braking, which could indicate warped front discs or pad build-up in the calipers from infrequent use, and check that the brake pedal feels firm rather than spongy, as the hydraulic fluid should ideally be renewed regardless of MOT outcome. Inspect the underbody and rear arches closely for corrosion, an area not always fully visible on the MOT ramp, and examine the engine for any signs of oil misting or weeping from the sump, cam covers, and the rear main seal, all of which are common on 996-series engines once seals harden with age. Additionally, because the car has clearly seen limited use, pay particular attention to signs of prolonged storage that an MOT would not cover. Check the condition of the tyres for sidewall cracking or flat-spotting from standing, and verify they are within date, as twenty-year-old rubber compound is generally considered unsafe regardless of tread depth. Start the engine from cold if possible, as any hesitation, smoke, or unusual rattle from the flat-six could indicate issues stemming from infrequent running rather than high wear. Examine the coolant and oil for proper level and condition, and be wary of any smell of stale fuel, which would suggest the tank has not been refreshed recently. Finally, confirm the recent service history directly with paperwork, as the absence of MOT advisories tells you nothing about cambelt or intermediate shaft replacement, both critical maintenance items on this generation of 911, and given the car's age a full specialist inspection by a Porsche-experienced technician is strongly advisable.
