2009 Westfield Sports 1.3L Petrol · PHJ 569K

The Westfield Sports has maintained an exceptionally clean MOT history over the past two years, with the most recent test on 9 April 2026 at 84,555 miles showing no defects whatsoever. This follows a single failed test on 16 April 2025 at 84,294 miles—an anomaly with no recorded issues, suggesting a procedural or administrative error rather than a mechanical problem. The trend is stable, with consistent passes since, indicating no recurring faults or deteriorating components. Given the vehicle’s age (17 years) and low mileage (84,555), the absence of advisories or defects in recent tests is particularly noteworthy and implies either meticulous maintenance or benign usage conditions. The mileage accumulation is remarkably low for its age, averaging just 4,974 miles per year—a figure that suggests either infrequent use or prolonged periods of inactivity. Between the 2023 and 2026 tests, the odometer advanced by just 1,717 miles in three years, with no sudden spikes or drops that might indicate odometer tampering. The lack of mileage progression also means wear on high-friction components like brake pads, clutch, and tyres is likely minimal, though this does not preclude latent issues from disuse (e.g., seized bearings or degraded seals). The clean MOT record aligns with this pattern, reinforcing the impression of a vehicle that has either been well cared for or driven sparingly. For a buyer, the primary focus should be on components prone to silent degradation in low-mileage scenarios. Given the absence of historical advisories, inspect the suspension bushes, coil springs, and ball joints for dryness or cracking—common in vehicles with limited movement. Check for binding in the rear brakes, as the 2025 failed test (with no defects logged) could hint at a near-miss issue, though this remains speculative. Structural integrity is less of a concern given the recent passes, but verify for surface corrosion in wheel arches, sills, and underseal, particularly if the car has spent time in damp conditions. The drivetrain and exhaust should also be scrutinised for leaks or rust, as these are often overlooked in low-mileage vehicles. Finally, while the MOT history is reassuring, the buyer should treat the lack of recorded faults as a starting point rather than an exhaustive guarantee. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is advisable to assess hidden wear, fluid condition, and electrical systems—areas not covered by the MOT. The vehicle’s low mileage and clean record suggest it may have been stored or used intermittently, so verifying its operational readiness beyond paperwork is critical.
