2016 Audi A1 1.0L Petrol · PL16 LFO

Recurring tyre wear and brake component degradation form the primary mechanical narrative for this vehicle, despite a relatively stable recent testing history. The most recent MOT on 12 January 2026 resulted in a pass, though it noted a minor defect regarding a partially non-functioning offside rear position lamp and an advisory for front tyres being worn close to the legal limit and worn on the edges. This follows a period of clean results in 2023 and 2024, which contrasts with a more advisory-heavy period between 2021 and 2022 where tyre wear and rear brake disc/pad condition were consistently flagged. The vehicle has covered 93,450 miles over its ten-year lifespan, averaging approximately 9,345 miles per year. This mileage accumulation is consistent with typical UK usage for a vehicle of this age. From a mechanical perspective, this steady rate of use suggests a consistent level of wear on consumable components such as braking systems, suspension bushes, and tyres, rather than the accelerated wear associated with high-mileage commercial use or the potential deterioration from long periods of inactivity. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the tyre and braking history recorded in the DVSA files. The repeated advisories for tyres being worn on the edges suggest potential issues with wheel alignment or suspension geometry. During a test drive, you should check for any significant steering pull to one side or unevenness in the steering wheel at various speeds. Additionally, because the 2022 record highlighted pitted or scored rear brake discs and the 2021 record noted thinning rear brake pads, it is essential to test the braking system for any pedal judder, pulsation, or unusual noises such as grinding or squealing when applying the brakes. The minor defect regarding the offside rear position lamp should be verified as rectified, as a partially functioning light source can affect visibility. Given the history of tyre wear patterns, a thorough visual inspection of the suspension components, including the control arms and bushes, is advisable to ensure there is no excessive play that could be contributing to the uneven tyre degradation noted in the 2026 and 2022 tests.
