2017 Mercedes-Benz GLC 2.1L Diesel · PW55 RRR

The vehicle is currently roadworthy, but the MOT history suggests a lack of consistent maintenance and a potential trend toward worsening mechanical condition. The most recent inspection on 2025-08-18 was passed at 52,889 miles with no defects, indicating that the car has not experienced a catastrophic failure since that date. However, the sequence of tests reveals a gap between 2023-09-01 and 2024-08-19, where the vehicle failed at 37,368 miles without any recorded defects. This suggests that the owner may have been absent or the car was not serviced during the gap, allowing wear to accumulate. The failure on 2023-09-01 is significant as it indicates the car was not maintained in the proper condition for its age, which could lead to progressive issues if the owner continues to drive without addressing wear. The mileage pattern indicates a potential for rapid accumulation of wear components, particularly regarding the drivetrain and suspension, which are critical for safety. The vehicle has maintained approximately 5,877 miles per year, which is low for a 2017 model, suggesting either light usage or long periods of inactivity. The absence of defects in the 2025 test but the failure in 2023 suggests that the owner may have driven the car for a significant portion of its life without performing a full MOT, or that the car was driven in poor condition. The 2024 test at 43,952 miles was passed, but the 2023 failure at 37,368 miles shows that the car was not maintained to the required standard during that period, potentially leading to accelerated failure of components like suspension bushes or brake discs. Given the history, the buyer should inspect the vehicle for structural integrity and specific mechanical risks, such as binding brakes or corrosion in the exhaust system, which are common causes of failure in older vehicles. The suspension system should be checked for bushings and springs to ensure they are not deteriorating, as this is a frequent cause of handling issues. The brakes should be examined for binding calipers or worn pads, and the exhaust should be inspected for emissions problems like carbon buildup or leaks, which are often overlooked during routine checks. The buyer must verify that the vehicle has not suffered from a catastrophic failure in the last few years, as the 2023 failure suggests that the car was not adequately maintained, placing it at risk of imminent breakdown.
