2001 Audi A4 1.8L Petrol · R10 AAJ

The most recent recorded MOT test was a pass on 21 October 2021 with no defects recorded. The overall maintenance trend appears exceptionally stable, with a consistent history of clean passes dating back to 2013. However, it is critical to note that there are no recorded tests between October 2021 and the current date of September 2026, which strongly suggests the vehicle has been off the road or declared SORN for a significant period. The recorded mileage of 54,458 miles is remarkably low for a twenty-five-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 2,178 miles per year. While this indicates minimal mechanical wear on the engine and drivetrain, such low annual usage often points to long periods of standing. In an older vehicle, prolonged inactivity can be more detrimental than regular use, as it often leads to the degradation of rubber components and the seizing of moving parts. Given the low mileage and the gap in testing, a physical inspection must focus on age-related perishing rather than wear. Examine the tyre sidewalls for cracking and hardness, as tyres often expire by age long before the tread is worn. Inspect the brake discs for heavy surface corrosion and check for binding calipers that may have seized during periods of inactivity. The 12V battery health should be verified, and all fluids, including engine oil and coolant, must be checked for degradation, as these should be replaced based on calendar intervals rather than mileage. Attention should be paid to the rubber suspension bushes and coil springs, which can perish or crack over time regardless of distance travelled. During a test drive, listen for suspension clunks or knocks over uneven surfaces that indicate worn bushings. It is imperative to verify the service history for the timing belt and water pump replacements, as these are time-critical components that can fail due to age. Finally, conduct a thorough inspection of the underbody and sills for corrosion, as moisture trapped during long periods of standing can accelerate structural rust.
