Structural integrity and brake system corrosion represent the primary mechanical risks for this vehicle, as evidenced by a history of severe failures concentrated around the rear suspension mountings, seat belt anchorages, and metal brake lines. The record shows a pattern of escalating defects between 2009 and 2010, where the car failed multiple tests for excessive corrosion in critical prescribed areas and fractured suspension components. Given that the last recorded MOT test occurred in September 2010, the vehicle has been absent from the DVSA testing system for sixteen years, leaving its current roadworthiness status entirely unverified and its structural condition unknown. With only 6,420 miles recorded over twenty-eight years, this vehicle has averaged approximately 229 miles per annum, indicating significant periods of inactivity. While low mileage is often associated with reduced wear on drivetrain components, the prolonged storage of a vehicle of this age frequently leads to the degradation of rubber seals, gaskets, and hydraulic hoses. The extended gap in testing since 2010 suggests the car has likely been stationary for over a decade, which poses a substantial risk of seized brake calipers, perished fuel lines, and internal engine damage due to stagnant fluids and potential moisture ingress within the fuel and cooling systems. Prospective buyers must prioritise a thorough inspection of the underbody, specifically focusing on the rear suspension mounting points and the chassis rails where previous failures were recorded. Any evidence of fresh welding or structural patches should be scrutinised for quality and corrosion protection. During a test drive, listen intently for metallic knocking sounds from the rear suspension over uneven surfaces, which could indicate failing bushes or weakened mounts, and check the steering for any play or vagueness that might suggest deteriorated track rod ends or steering rack mounts. The brake pedal must be tested for a firm, consistent feel; any sponginess or excessive travel would indicate compromised master cylinder seals or air within the hydraulic system, likely exacerbated by the long period of disuse. Engine performance should be evaluated by checking for blue or white smoke from the exhaust upon cold start, which could signify worn valve stem seals or head gasket issues resulting from the vehicle's long-term storage. Examine the engine bay for signs of oil misting or leaks, particularly around the rocker cover and oil filter housing, as the rubber seals are prone to hardening over time. Furthermore, all electrical systems, including headlamps, stop lamps, and indicators, require verification, as the 2009 and 2010 records highlighted recurring issues with lighting circuits. Given the lack of recent MOT certification, a comprehensive professional inspection is essential before attempting to return the vehicle to the road.
