2012 Audi ALL Road Avant 2.0L Petrol · R99 OAD

The most recent MOT on 21 August 2026 was passed, but it carried two advisories – a measurable play in the off‑side front steering‑rack inner joint and thin rear brake pads. Earlier tests have been clean, with the only other notes being mild rear‑disc wear recorded in 2019. The pattern suggests a generally stable maintenance record; the vehicle has avoided outright failures but is beginning to show the wear‑related items typical of a car approaching a decade of service. At 113,271 mi the Avant averages roughly 8,100 mi per year, which sits comfortably within the normal UK usage envelope for a 2012 model. There are no obvious mileage gaps in the MOT history that would hint at prolonged periods of inactivity, so the wear on consumables is likely to be consistent with the recorded distance rather than the result of long‑term storage. When you inspect the car, give particular attention to the front steering rack. Check for excessive free play when the wheel is rocked at the hub and listen for clunking when turning the wheel at low speed – symptoms that would confirm the advisory. The rear brake pads should be measured for remaining thickness; thin pads can lead to reduced braking efficiency and may soon require replacement, especially if the discs – noted as pitted in 2019 – have progressed. Examine the rear discs for deep scoring or rust on the backing plate, and test the brakes for pedal feel, any pulsation, or noise that could indicate disc wear beyond the advisory level. Beyond the specific advisories, a vehicle of this age should be examined for age‑related deterioration. Inspect all tyre sidewalls for cracking, dry‑rot, or uneven wear that could be a sign of suspension wear or mis‑alignment. Verify the condition of the 12‑volt battery, looking for swollen cases or a voltage below 12.4 V when the engine is off. Check that coolant, brake fluid and gearbox oil have been changed within the recommended intervals – fluid darkening or a burnt smell can indicate the need for a flush. Finally, confirm that the suspension bushes, coil springs and dampers show no signs of leakage, excessive play or corrosion, and that the exhaust system is free of cracks or excessive rust, as these are common failure points on cars that have spent many years on the road.
