2009 Toyota RAV-4 2.2L Diesel · R99 OAP

A pattern of intermittent mechanical failures and wear-related advisories defines this vehicle's MOT history, though the most recent test on 09 January 2025 showed no defects. The record indicates a transition from component wear and lighting issues in earlier years to a more significant suspension failure in late 2023, specifically regarding an excessively worn front anti-roll bar linkage ball joint. While the vehicle has achieved clean passes in its two most recent inspections, the previous history of brake component advisories and lighting failures suggests a history of addressing specific component degradation as it arises. The recorded mileage of 110,699 miles over approximately 17 years represents an average annual accumulation of roughly 6,512 miles. This usage profile is relatively low for a vehicle of this age and type, suggesting it has not been subjected to heavy, high-frequency long-distance driving. Mechanically, this level of usage often means that while drivetrain components may have lower cumulative wear, other elements such as rubber suspension bushes, seals, and electrical connections may be more susceptible to age-related degradation or perishing from periods of less frequent movement rather than heavy mechanical stress. Prospective buyers should pay close attention to the braking system and front-end suspension during a test drive. Given the 2019 advisories regarding thinning front brake pads and worn front brake discs, it is essential to check for any pedal judder under braking or unusual grinding noises, which could indicate that the discs have reached the end of their serviceable life or have become unevenly worn. Furthermore, following the major failure in December 2023 for a worn anti-roll bar linkage, a thorough inspection of the front suspension is required. Listen for any knocking or clunking sounds when driving over uneven surfaces or speed bumps, as these are characteristic symptoms of worn ball joints or deteriorated suspension linkages. Electrical components should also be verified, specifically the registration plate illumination and the high-level stop lamp, following the history of inoperative lamps and reduced light intensity recorded between 2019 and 2021. Ensure that all external lighting functions correctly and that the brake lights provide consistent, bright illumination. While the recent lack of defects is a positive indicator, the specific history of these components necessitates a physical verification that all lighting circuits and bulbs are currently fully operational.
