2024 Volvo XC40 + B4 Mhev Auto 2.0L Hybrid electric (clean) · RA73 FUO

The Volvo XC40 + B4 MHEV tested on 17 March 2026 at 12,576 miles passed its MOT with no defects recorded, indicating a stable roadworthiness condition at this stage. The absence of advisories or failures suggests that all critical systems—brakes, suspension, steering, lights, and structural integrity—were deemed compliant with current standards. Given the vehicle’s age of just under two years and the MOT’s recency (less than five months ago), there is no evidence of deteriorating trends in the available data. However, the brevity of the record means this verdict is based on a single snapshot rather than a longer-term pattern. The recorded mileage of 12,576 miles over approximately 24 months aligns closely with the average annual usage for a vehicle of this age, averaging around 6,288 miles per year. There are no red flags in the mileage accumulation—no sudden spikes or prolonged periods of inactivity that might indicate neglect or infrequent use. The lack of prior MOT history beyond this single test means there is no baseline to compare wear progression, but the current mileage suggests moderate but not excessive usage for a plug-in hybrid. Buyers should verify whether the mileage aligns with the vehicle’s service records, as discrepancies could hint at odometer tampering or inconsistent reporting. Given the clean MOT result, a prospective buyer should prioritise a thorough inspection of components that are not routinely tested but can degrade between tests. Focus on the hybrid battery cooling system, as MHEV batteries can develop internal faults without external symptoms, and check for any signs of fluid leaks around the power electronics. The suspension—particularly the front coil springs and rear bushings—should be examined for wear, as early-stage degradation may not always trigger an MOT advisory. Binding in the rear brakes, a common issue in this model, was not flagged here, but a test drive should confirm smooth, progressive braking without vibration or pulling. Finally, inspect the underbody for corrosion, especially around wheel arches and suspension mounts, as salt or moisture ingress can compromise structural integrity over time. While the MOT provides reassurance on immediate roadworthiness, the absence of historical data means this verdict carries inherent uncertainty. A full service history and a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic would be advisable to confirm the vehicle’s long-term reliability beyond the latest compliance test.
