2002 Renault Megane 2.0L Petrol · RF52 AKX

This Renault Mégane has maintained a clean MOT history with no defects recorded in the two most recent tests, both passing in February 2023 and January 2022 at 77,345 and 72,762 miles respectively. The absence of advisories or failings suggests the vehicle has not experienced recurrent mechanical issues during these periods. However, the most recent test occurred over three years ago, which is well beyond the standard 12-month MOT validity window. Without an up-to-date test, there is no confirmation that critical components such as suspension bushes, coil springs, or binding calipers remain serviceable. The lack of recent inspection also means potential corrosion or wear in underbody areas, exhaust systems, or structural panels cannot be ruled out. The recorded mileage of 77,345 miles over approximately 24 years—roughly 3,223 miles annually—indicates unusually light usage for a vehicle of this age. While this generally implies reduced wear on high-mileage components like brakes and drivetrain, it also raises questions about long-term storage conditions. The gap between tests (around 11 months) is acceptable, but the absence of any intermediate maintenance records or advisories suggests either consistent, low-stress operation or a lack of proactive servicing. Buyers should verify whether the vehicle has been stored properly, as prolonged inactivity can accelerate issues like seized suspension joints or degraded fluids. Given the clean MOT history, the most critical areas for an in-person inspection should focus on suspension integrity, particularly rear suspension bushes and coil springs, which often degrade silently over time. The brakes—though not flagged in past tests—should be checked for uneven wear or binding calipers, as older vehicles are prone to brake dust contamination or rotor warping. Underbody corrosion, especially around the sills, rear wheel arches, and exhaust system, is a common concern for this model age and should be thoroughly examined. Additionally, the condition of the exhaust emissions system, including catalytic converter functionality, should be verified, as older Renaults are susceptible to clogged particulate filters or failed oxygen sensors. A pre-purchase inspection is strongly advised to confirm these components remain within safe operational limits.
