2002 Morgan 4/4 1.8L Petrol · RO52 RWJ

A consistent record of roadworthiness defines this vehicle, characterized by a sequence of six consecutive clean passes culminating in the most recent test on 17 March 2026. Aside from a single failure in 2013 regarding a split centre steering rack gaiter, the vehicle has presented no defects or advisories for over a decade, indicating a stable mechanical state in recent years. The recorded mileage of 15,946 miles over 24 years reflects a very low annual usage rate of approximately 664 miles. Of particular note is a significant gap in the MOT history between August 2013 and March 2021, suggesting the vehicle may have been off the road or in storage for several years. Such low-mileage profiles and extended periods of inactivity often place different stresses on a vehicle than regular use, typically affecting rubber components and fluid integrity rather than drivetrain wear. Given the historical failure of the steering rack gaiter, a physical inspection of the steering assembly is necessary to ensure the current gaiters are intact and that no road grit has penetrated the rack. During a test drive, the buyer should listen for any knocking or clicking through the steering column and feel for any irregularities or stiffness in the steering effort, which could indicate degradation of the rack internals following the previous failure or subsequent periods of standing. Attention should also be paid to the braking system and suspension bushes, as these components often perish or seize during long-term storage. The buyer should check for any binding calipers or uneven pedal feel during braking, and listen for squeaks or knocks over undulating surfaces that would suggest the rubber suspension bushes have hardened or cracked. Ensuring the vehicle tracks straight under braking and acceleration will help confirm that the low-mileage chassis remains aligned.
