2016 Vauxhall Corsa 1.4L Petrol · RR55 SAL

The 2016 Vauxhall Corsa presents a pattern of recurring mechanical advisories across five consecutive MOT tests spanning 2021 to 2025, with the front shock absorbers consistently flagged for light oil misting and the rear tyres showing signs of damage or deterioration. Despite maintaining a clean record of passing each test, the persistence of these specific issues—particularly the front suspension system—indicates a systematic concern that has not resolved itself through routine inspections alone. The absence of any outright failures does not eliminate the risk, as light oil misting in shock absorbers typically signals internal bearing wear or seal degradation that requires professional attention even when the vehicle passes the MOT. The recorded mileage of 51,686 miles for a model ten years old represents an exceptionally low annual accumulation of approximately 5,169 miles per year, which stands in stark contrast to the typical wear patterns expected from such a duration. This disparity suggests either prolonged periods of minimal use, seasonal storage, or reduced driving frequency compared to the average vehicle of similar age. The gap between the 2021 and 2023 MOTs, where the rear tyres were flagged as slightly damaged or cracked, further implies that the car may not have been regularly driven throughout the intervening period, potentially allowing suspension components to degrade unnoticed until they reached their threshold. The front shock absorbers show a clear maintenance trajectory worth examining closely. Light oil misting around the front suspension mounts is a common indicator of internal fluid leakage, often accompanied by a subtle change in handling such as increased body roll or a harsher ride over bumps. On a test drive, the buyer should pay particular attention to how the car responds when encountering potholes or uneven surfaces, listening for any changes in ride quality that might suggest the oil misting is progressing toward a complete internal failure. While the MOT certificate confirms the vehicle is currently roadworthy, the ongoing front suspension issue warrants immediate professional diagnosis before committing to purchase. Rear tyre damage identified in the 2022 MOT, marked as slightly damaged or perishing on both tyres, compounds the mechanical concerns presented. A thorough visual inspection of the rear tyres is essential, focusing on tread depth, sidewall condition, and the presence of cracks or bulges that could compromise grip and safety. Checking the surrounding wheel well area for water pooling or corroded fasteners will also reveal whether the rear suspension mounting points have suffered from similar structural degradation. Given the combination of front suspension oil misting and rear tyre deterioration, the buyer should expect significant work on both systems before the vehicle can be considered fully safe for regular road use.
