2011 Citroen C4 1.6L Diesel · SA11 HUJ

Chronic wear of the front suspension components defines the mechanical history of this vehicle, with recurring advisories regarding ball joints and bushes dating back to 2023. This pattern culminated in a February 2025 failure due to a fractured offside front coil spring and a worn nearside anti-roll bar linkage. While the vehicle passed its most recent test on 16 February 2026, the record indicates a persistent issue with the front suspension arm pins and bushes, alongside new advisories for wear on both the front and rear brake discs. The recorded mileage of 63,377 miles is low for a fifteen-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 4,225 miles per year. This low annual accumulation suggests the car has spent significant time stationary or has been used for very short journeys. Mechanically, such usage patterns often contribute to the premature degradation of rubber components, such as the suspension bushes and the constant velocity boot flagged in 2024, as these parts can perish or harden when not regularly cycled through their full range of motion. A test drive should focus specifically on the front end to identify the progression of the recorded suspension wear. Listen for knocking or clunking sounds when traversing speed bumps or uneven road surfaces, which would indicate that the worn suspension arm pins and bushes have progressed beyond the advisory stage. The previous failure of a coil spring and the ongoing wear of the anti-roll bar linkage suggest the front chassis components are reaching the end of their service life. Attention must also be paid to the braking system, as both front and rear discs were flagged as worn in the February 2026 inspection. During the test drive, feel for any pedal judder or vibrations under braking, which can indicate uneven disc wear. Given that rear brake disc wear was first noted as far back as 2020, the current thickness of the discs should be physically verified to determine if replacement is now required.
