2013 BMW 1 Series 1.6L Petrol · SA13 WGE

The vehicle is currently roadworthy, having passed its MOT on 16 May 2026 at 109,944 miles. However, the immediate history reveals a period of significant neglect followed by a major failure in December 2025. That failure highlighted several critical safety and structural issues including dangerously thin front brake pads, poor parking brake efficiency, and multiple lighting defects. While the most recent test shows no current defects, the trend suggests a reactive maintenance approach where repairs are only addressed after a test failure. The mileage pattern is consistent with a 13-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 8,400 miles per year. There is a notable gap in records between January 2023 and November 2024, where the car covered only 3,154 miles over nearly two years. This low annual usage often correlates with the degradation of rubber-based components and the accumulation of corrosion, which is evident in the structural issues found later. The vehicle has accelerated its use more recently, covering over 13,000 miles between the three most recent tests. A buyer must scrutinise the structural integrity of the vehicle because the December 2025 test identified corrosion on the nearside and offside rear structures and the rear sub-frame. Although the tester noted structural rigidity was not significantly reduced at that time, rust on BMW sub-frames often progresses rapidly. Physical inspection should also focus on the steering rack inner joints, which showed play in November 2024, and the rear suspension bushes. Given the history of worn brake pads and poor brake efficiency, a thorough check of the entire braking system is necessary to ensure the recent repairs were completed to a professional standard.
