2002 Renault Megane Scenic 1.4L Petrol · SD52 XDJ

The Renault Mégane Scenic’s most recent MOT cycle ends with a double test in April 2025—one pass and one fail—yet no defects were recorded in either. This suggests the vehicle passed all mandatory checks despite the retest, though the lack of advisories or defects in prior tests also implies no recurring issues were formally noted. The last successful pass occurred just three months ago, which is acceptable given the 12-month MOT interval, but the retest raises minor curiosity: if no faults were found, the failure may have been procedural (e.g., late submission). The absence of advisories or advisory repeats in the 2023–2025 window indicates no persistent mechanical trends, though this does not preclude hidden wear. The recorded mileage of 116,175 miles over 24 years equates to roughly 4,840 miles annually, a figure significantly lower than the average for a vehicle of this age. The gap between tests is consistent, with roughly 3,000 miles accumulated between each MOT cycle, suggesting minimal usage. The only notable anomaly is the two tests in April 2025 at identical mileage, which implies the car was likely stationary or lightly driven during that period. There are no red flags in the mileage pattern—no sudden spikes or prolonged inactivity that would warrant concern for neglected maintenance. Given the clean MOT history, a buyer’s priority should focus on high-wear components not routinely tested. The suspension—particularly coil springs, bushes, and dampers—should be inspected for uneven sagging or excessive play, as these are common in vehicles this age. Brake discs and pads, while not failed in tests, may show uneven wear or binding calipers, especially if the vehicle has been stationary. Corrosion is a critical concern; the underbody, wheel arches, and sills should be examined for structural compromise, as rust can develop silently. Finally, the exhaust system warrants scrutiny for leaks or sagging supports, as these are often overlooked but can lead to emissions failures or structural issues.
