2014 Vauxhall Astra 1.6L Diesel · SD64 SVX

The vehicle demonstrates a stable roadworthiness trend, with no defects recorded in its last three MOT tests, including the most recent 2024-10-23 assessment at 98,700 miles. The 2022-09-15 test, which initially failed but showed no defects, was followed by a successful retest, suggesting any issues were resolved. No recurring mechanical or structural faults are evident in the history, indicating consistent maintenance. However, the absence of recorded defects does not guarantee absence of wear, particularly given the vehicle’s age and mileage. The mileage progression aligns with typical usage for a 12-year-old vehicle, averaging 8,225 miles annually. Notable gaps include a 12,000-mile increase between 2021-09-29 (68,101 miles) and 2022-09-15 (80,996 miles), followed by a 16,000-mile jump to 96,201 miles by 2023-09-18. These spikes may reflect periods of heavy use or infrequent MOT testing, though the record remains otherwise clean. The 2022-09-15 failure at 80,996 miles, despite no defects, warrants scrutiny, as it could indicate non-compliance with specific technical standards not detailed in the report. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the suspension system, particularly suspension bushes and coil springs, which degrade over time. Brake components, including discs and calipers, should be checked for uneven wear or corrosion, as high mileage increases risk. Structural integrity, especially underbody rust, is critical given the vehicle’s age. The lack of recorded exhaust emissions issues is positive, but a pre-purchase inspection should verify catalytic converter functionality and overall engine health. The MOT history suggests no immediate dangers, but the vehicle’s age and mileage necessitate thorough mechanical evaluation.
