1974 MG B 1.8L Petrol · SDH 456M

The 1974 MG B presents a stable and reassuring maintenance trend. The most recent test on 4 September 2024 at 77,234 miles passed with zero defects. This clean sheet is not an isolated event. The vehicle has passed its last five recorded MOTs without a single advisory or failure, indicating consistent mechanical care and no recurring faults. The mileage pattern tells a story of very light use. Between the May 2013 test at 75,393 miles and the September 2024 test at 77,234 miles, the car covered just 1,841 miles over eleven years. This is exceptionally low, even for a classic. The gap between 2013 and 2022 is particularly notable, with only 130 miles added across nearly a decade. Such minimal use raises the question of long-term storage rather than neglect. Tyres, rubber bushes, and fluid condition will have aged with time, not mileage. Despite the clean MOT record, a buyer must inspect this vehicle with a classic car specialist. The absence of recorded defects does not guarantee the absence of age-related deterioration. Focus on structural integrity, particularly the sills, floor pans, and subframe mounts, which are critical on the MG B and prone to corrosion even on low-mileage examples. Check all rubber components, including suspension bushes and brake hoses, for perishing. Verify that the braking system has not suffered from standing, as binding calipers and corroded discs are common after long periods of inactivity. The clean MOT history is a positive foundation, but a physical inspection is essential to confirm the car's true condition.
