2016 Honda CBR 0.5L Petrol · SJ16 WDU

Four recorded MOT tests on this 2016 Honda CBR, the most recent being 2025-05-07, have all returned a pass with no advisories or defects recorded, indicating a stable and consistently clean test outcome across the documented period. That uniformity across four successive tests is a positive data point on its own, but it must be read with a degree of caution: an MOT is a snapshot check on the day, not a warranty of condition, and four passes simply mean no items failed or were flagged at the time of testing. The mileage profile is unusually low for a ten year old motorcycle. From 2022-07-02 through 2025-05-07 the recorded figure stands at 3,922 miles, which equates to roughly 390 miles per year on average. Such low annual usage means the engine, drivetrain, and braking components have experienced minimal mechanical wear, but it also raises the well documented risks associated with motorcycles that stand idle for prolonged periods. Moisture accumulation inside the fuel tank, stale or degraded fuel, dried and cracked fork oil seals, oxidised electrical connectors, perished rubber components such as intake manifolds and vacuum lines, and surface corrosion on exposed brightwork or chain links are all common consequences of low mileage storage. None of these items fall within the standard MOT scope, so their absence from the record is unsurprising rather than reassuring. A prospective buyer should look beyond the paperwork and conduct a hands on inspection, or pay for a specialist pre purchase assessment. Particular attention should be paid to starting behaviour from cold, the condition and tension of the drive chain and sprockets, evidence of fluid leaks from the forks or engine casings, the state of the brake discs and pads including any surface corrosion from standing, tyre age codes and sidewall condition, and a thorough check for corrosion on the frame, swingarm, and exhaust mounting points. Given the age and minimal mileage, a compression test and an inspection of the fuel system for varnish or stale petrol would be sensible additional precautions before committing to purchase.
