2012 Skoda Superb 2.0L Diesel · SO12 LPU

The 2012 Skoda Superb presents a stable and currently sound mechanical picture based on its DVSA MOT record. The most recent test, conducted on 15 August 2025 at 194,019 miles, resulted in a clean pass with zero defects recorded. This outcome, following an earlier failed test on the same day at the same mileage, indicates the previous owner rectified the initial failure promptly before the retest. The maintenance trend is stable, showing no recurring or worsening mechanical or structural issues heading into the current ownership. Mileage accumulation tells a story of consistent, high-intensity use. Between the June 2023 test at 103,293 miles and the June 2024 test at 161,800 miles, the car covered 58,507 miles in a single year. That is an extraordinary rate, nearly double the annual average of 13,858 miles suggested by its age. The mileage then plateaued entirely, recording 194,019 miles in August 2025 and showing no movement since. This suggests either a recent change in use, a period of standing, or a potential discrepancy. A buyer should verify the current odometer reading against the August 2025 figure to confirm the car has not been standing idle for nearly a year. Despite the clean recent pass, the sheer volume of miles covered in such a short window demands a careful physical inspection. At 194,019 miles, consumable components like suspension bushes, coil springs, and shock absorbers are well past their typical service life, regardless of the test outcome. A thorough check for perishing, play, and leaks is essential. The braking system, particularly calipers and discs, should be examined for uneven wear or binding, as high motorway mileage can mask slow-acting faults that only appear in stop-start driving. Tyre condition and date codes should be inspected closely, as the record shows no advisories but does not account for age-related sidewall degradation. Structural integrity and corrosion remain the primary long-term concerns for a vehicle of this age and mileage. A close inspection of the inner wings, sills, subframes, and suspension mounting points is necessary to confirm the clean MOT result reflects genuine condition rather than a surface-level pass. The exhaust system and its mountings should also be checked for corrosion and gas leaks, as high-mileage components often deteriorate between tests. Given the mileage plateau, a buyer should investigate why the car stopped being used and ensure all fluids, particularly engine oil and coolant, are fresh and free from contamination from prolonged standing.
