2008 Toyota Yaris 1.0L Petrol · SV58 AVF

The 2008 Toyota Yaris demonstrates a stable roadworthiness trend based on its most recent MOT, recorded on 2023-08-08 at 65,239 miles, which showed no defects. However, the vehicle experienced two failures in 2020 and 2021, both with no recorded defects, suggesting potential unresolved issues or administrative anomalies. The absence of critical faults in the latest test indicates the car has been maintained to a standard meeting legal requirements, but the prior failures raise questions about the consistency of repairs or the accuracy of defect reporting. The mileage of 65,239 miles over 18 years equates to an average of 3,624 miles annually, significantly below the UK average for this age group. This low usage could imply infrequent driving or prolonged storage, increasing the risk of corrosion, fluid degradation, and component stiffness. Notably, the 2020-02-12 MOT at 57,707 miles was followed by a failure just two days later at 57,706 miles, a discrepancy that may indicate a data entry error or an unrecorded fault. The subsequent 2021-02-10 failure at 60,952 miles, with no defects listed, further complicates the maintenance narrative. A buyer should prioritise inspecting the vehicle’s structural integrity, particularly for rust in areas like the sills, floor pans, and underbody, given the low mileage and potential for stagnant conditions. Suspension components, including bushes and coil springs, may require scrutiny for wear due to inactivity. The braking system, exhaust, and fluid systems should also be tested, as prolonged storage can lead to binding calipers, corroded discs, or degraded seals. While the latest MOT confirms compliance, the historical inconsistencies necessitate a thorough pre-purchase inspection to verify the car’s mechanical health.
