1999 BMW R1100 1.1L Petrol · T738 ASE

The most recent MOT test conducted on 23 March 2026 resulted in a pass with no defects recorded. Evaluating the long-term maintenance trend, the vehicle demonstrates a stable and consistent history. Aside from a single dangerous failure in 2015 concerning the horn control, which was subsequently rectified, the vehicle has maintained a clean record for several years. The absence of advisories in the most recent testing cycles suggests that the mechanical components are currently within acceptable operating parameters and that the vehicle has been subject to adequate upkeep. The recorded mileage of 31,340 miles is significantly low for a 27-year-old vehicle, representing an average annual usage of approximately 1,161 miles. While this low mileage indicates minimal wear on the engine and drivetrain, it also suggests the vehicle has likely spent extended periods in stationary storage. This pattern of infrequent use can lead to specific mechanical issues that are not always captured by mileage alone, such as the hardening of rubber seals, the degradation of fluids, and the accumulation of surface corrosion on unexposed metal surfaces. A prospective buyer should prioritise a physical inspection of all rubber components, specifically the tyres, to check for sidewall cracking or perishing, as age-related degradation occurs independently of tread depth. You should also inspect the braking system for signs of long-term standing, such as heavy pitting or corrosion on the brake discs and potential binding of the calipers. During a test drive, listen for any clunks or knocks from the suspension bushes or coil springs, which may have stiffened or perished due to lack of regular movement. Finally, it is essential to verify the condition of all consumables based on time rather than distance. Check the age and clarity of the brake fluid and coolant, as these fluids degrade chemically over time and can lead to internal corrosion or reduced braking efficiency. Ensure the 12V battery and charging system are robust, as infrequent use often leads to battery sulphation. It is highly recommended to cross-reference the MOT history with the service book to confirm that oil changes and seal inspections have been carried out on a calendar-based schedule to prevent leaks caused by dried-out gaskets.
