The most recent MOT test conducted in November 2025 resulted in a pass with no defects recorded. Looking at the broader history, the maintenance trend appears stable and improving. While there was a minor failure in 2024 relating to an offside front direction indicator, this was a simple electrical fault. More significantly, recurring advisories from 2020 to 2022 regarding oil leaks and play in the rear wheel bearings have not appeared in the three most recent tests, suggesting these mechanical issues were addressed and rectified. The recorded mileage of 26,742 miles is exceptionally low for a twelve year old vehicle, averaging roughly 2,228 miles per year. While this indicates minimal wear on the engine internals and drivetrain components, such low usage often implies long periods of standing. This usage profile shifts the mechanical risk from wear-and-tear to degradation caused by inactivity, which can affect rubber components, fluid chemistry, and the overall integrity of the braking system. Given the history of wheel bearing play and oil leaks, a thorough physical inspection is required. During the test drive, listen specifically for a low-frequency humming or droning noise from the rear, which would indicate the bearings are deteriorating again. Inspect the engine bay and undercarriage for any fresh oil residue or weeping around gaskets. Because the vehicle has spent significant time stationary, check the brake discs for heavy surface corrosion and ensure the calipers are not binding, which can cause the brakes to drag and overheat. Special attention must be paid to age-related degradation of consumables. Examine all tyre sidewalls for fine cracking or perishing, as tyres can become unsafe due to age even if the tread depth remains legal. Verify the health of the 12V battery and check the service history to ensure that oil and filter changes were performed based on a calendar interval rather than mileage. Finally, inspect the chassis and suspension bushes for dryness or cracking, as rubber components often perish faster when they are not regularly flexed through normal driving cycles.
