2003 Harley Davidson Fxdx 1.4L Petrol · V2 DYN

The most recent MOT test conducted on 10 June 2026 resulted in a pass with no defects recorded. The overall maintenance trend for this vehicle appears exceptionally stable, characterized by a consistent history of clean passes over several decades. There are no recurring mechanical failures or chronic issues documented in the DVSA records, which suggests the vehicle has been well-preserved and maintained to a high standard. The recorded mileage of 9,773 miles over approximately 23 years is remarkably low, averaging roughly 425 miles per year. While this indicates minimal wear on the internal engine components and the drivetrain, such low usage often implies long periods of standing. Mechanical implications of infrequent use typically shift from wear-and-tear to degradation, where components fail due to inactivity rather than distance covered. Given the low annual mileage and the clean MOT history, a prospective buyer must prioritize a physical inspection of age-related degradation. It is critical to examine the tyres for perishing and sidewall cracking; rubber compounds harden and crack over time regardless of tread depth, which can lead to structural failure. The braking system should be checked for binding calipers and surface corrosion on the brake discs, both of which are common symptoms of a vehicle that has spent significant time stationary. During a test drive, the buyer should feel for any uneven brake application or shuddering. Further attention must be paid to time-based fluid degradation. The buyer should verify through service records that engine oil and brake fluid have been replaced according to a calendar schedule rather than mileage intervals, as moisture ingress in brake fluid can lead to internal corrosion. All rubber hoses and seals should be inspected for signs of drying or leaking. Additionally, the 12V battery health should be verified, as prolonged dormancy often leads to permanent capacity loss. Finally, ensure the fuel system is free from varnish and that the engine reaches operating temperature smoothly without hesitation.
