2003 Mitsubishi Shogun Sport 2.5L Diesel · VA03 OYV

The vehicle remains roadworthy but the maintenance history shows a clear trend of increasing age-related degradation and component wear. The most recent test in February 2023 at 112,520 miles identified multiple developing issues including a misting front shock absorber, a minor exhaust leak, and worn front anti-roll bar bushes. While the vehicle passed, the presence of structural corrosion and recurring mechanical faults suggests the car is entering a phase where preventative maintenance must become more rigorous to avoid more frequent failures in the future. At 23 years old, the recorded mileage of 112,520 miles is low, averaging approximately 4,900 miles per year. This low usage pattern is consistent across the records, with only 4,000 miles covered between March 2022 and 2023. However, low mileage often masks the deterioration of rubber components and metalwork, which perish through time and environmental exposure rather than mechanical friction. This is evidenced by the repeated failure of brake pipes and suspension bushings despite the relatively low distance travelled by the vehicle. A buyer must prioritize a thorough inspection of the structural integrity and the braking system. The record shows a persistent issue with the nearside front brake pipe, which was flagged for corrosion in both 2020 and 2022, indicating a vulnerability to rust or poor fluid protection in that area. The structural corrosion noted in the 2023 test requires a close look at the sills, subframes, and floor pans to ensure rust has not progressed beyond surface levels. Additionally, the misting front shock absorber and corroded rear coil springs should be monitored closely, as these components are likely to require replacement in the near future.
