2012 Vauxhall Zafira 2.0L Diesel · VF12 KVC

The 2012 Opel Zafira presents a stable but high-mileage roadworthiness profile as of its most recent MOT on 10 July 2025 at 268,517 miles. The vehicle passed, yet the record reveals a persistent minor exhaust gas leak at the central section, flagged in both the August 2024 and July 2025 tests. This is not a new failure but a tolerated advisory that has remained unresolved for at least eleven months. The maintenance trend is essentially flat. No new serious defects have emerged, but the owner has not corrected a known emissions-related fault, suggesting a reactive rather than preventative approach to upkeep. Mileage accumulation tells a clear story of sustained, intensive use. Between the failed test on 5 August 2024 at 257,278 miles and the pass on 10 July 2025 at 268,517 miles, the Zafira covered 11,239 miles in roughly eleven months. That is approximately 1,020 miles per month, consistent with the vehicle's lifetime average of around 19,180 miles per year. There are no suspicious gaps or sudden drops in the recorded pattern. The annual tests are spaced normally, and the mileage progression is linear, indicating the car has been in continuous daily service rather than sitting idle. The recurring central exhaust leak warrants close physical inspection. A minor gas leak at this age and mileage often points to a deteriorating flexi-joint, a cracked weld, or corroded flanges rather than a simple gasket failure. Have the entire exhaust system checked for structural corrosion, particularly where it passes over the rear subframe. At 268,517 miles, suspension bushes, coil springs, and drop links will be well past their expected service life. Listen for clunks over speed bumps and check for uneven tyre wear, which would indicate worn track rod ends or wishbone bushes. The rear fog lamp failure noted in the August 2024 failure was rectified before the retest, so that specific electrical issue appears resolved, but the high mileage means wiring looms and connectors should be inspected for brittle insulation. Brake condition deserves particular attention given the mileage. Request a visual check of disc thickness, pad depth, and caliper operation, especially at the rear where binding is common on Zafiras of this generation. The tester did not flag brake defects in the most recent pass, but consumable wear at this mileage is rapid. Finally, inspect the underbody and sill seams for corrosion. A vehicle doing nearly 20,000 miles annually over fourteen years will have been exposed to extensive road salt, and structural integrity must be verified beneath any surface underseal.
