2008 MINI Cooper Clubman 1.6L Petrol · VLZ 5697

The roadworthiness of this vehicle is currently compromised following a failure in the most recent test in February 2026 at 106,436 miles. While the car maintained a clean record of passes for several years, the sudden failure without prior recorded defects suggests a mechanical or emission-related issue that requires immediate attention. The maintenance trend appears stable until this recent setback, but the lack of a passing certificate indicates the vehicle is no longer meeting the minimum road safety standards without further intervention. The mileage profile is notably low for an eighteen-year-old vehicle, averaging approximately 5,900 miles per year. However, the data reveals significant periods of low usage between 2018 and 2021, where the car covered only 6,504 miles over three years. Usage increased sharply between late 2021 and early 2026, with the vehicle covering over 26,000 miles in a short window. This pattern of long periods of standing often leads to the degradation of rubber components, such as suspension bushes and brake lines, and can cause internal corrosion despite the low overall odometer reading. A buyer must conduct a thorough physical inspection of the suspension and braking system, as the low-mile history often masks seized brake calipers or perished seals. Given the failure in February 2026 and the previous failure in October 2023, the specific reasons for these declines must be verified to ensure they were properly rectified rather than bypassed. The structural integrity of the chassis and subframes should be checked for rust, as older vehicles of this era are prone to corrosion that may not always be apparent during a standard MOT test until it reaches a critical stage.
